Are the Motives Right?

Luke 9:15-17
The Message

14-17But he went ahead and directed his disciples, "Sit them down in groups of about fifty." They did what he said, and soon had everyone seated. He took the five loaves and two fish, lifted his face to heaven in prayer, blessed, broke, and gave the bread and fish to the disciples to hand out to the crowd. After the people had all eaten their fill, twelve baskets of leftovers were gathered up.

There were people around Jesus just because of the miracles. Their motives weren't pure. They were not seeking salvation. They were not trying to be healed or delivered; they just wanted a free lunch. Understand, there are and will be people around you for the wrong reasons. They don't want your God, they see what God is doing for you and through you and they want to ride your coat tail.

Take a good look at the people around you. Do they people in your life strengthen you? Do they encourage you? Do they have your best interest at heart? Or are they there to get what they can? If you are down do they pick you up? If you are going through, do they call you?

When God has placed an anointing on your life, there will be people around with the wrong motives. What are your motives? Do you serve God because of who He is? Are you seeking His face? Are you just serving Him for material reasons? May sure that what you do for Christ is for His glory and not yours. When you have people hanging around telling you how wonderful you are, it is easy to lose focus. Take inventory of your life right now. Are the motives right?

Be Blessed
