Overcoming Stress

Romans 5:1-5
(The Message)

1-2By entering through faith into what God has always wanted to do for us—set us right with him, make us fit for him—we have it all together with God because of our Master Jesus. And that's not all: We throw open our doors to God and discover at the same moment that he has already thrown open his door to us. We find ourselves standing where we always hoped we might stand—out in the wide open spaces of God's grace and glory, standing tall and shouting our praise.

3-5There's more to come: We continue to shout our praise even when we're hemmed in with troubles, because we know how troubles can develop passionate patience in us, and how that patience in turn forges the tempered steel of virtue, keeping us alert for whatever God will do next. In alert expectancy such as this, we're never left feeling shortchanged. Quite the contrary—we can't round up enough containers to hold everything God generously pours into our lives through the Holy Spirit!

Stress: A specific response by the body to a stimulus, as fear or pain, that disturbs or interferes with the normal physiological equilibrium of an organism.
Physical, mental, or emotional strain or tension: Worry over his job and his wife's health put him under a great stress.

You are human. We all experience stress at one time or another. Stress is a normal reaction to certain situations. We all go into 'Fight or Flight' mode. Your adrenaline starts pumping, it's normal. That is the body's way of dealing with stress. It is normal to experience stress during a major life change. On the other hand, stress becomes a way of life for some. Everything causes them to be stressed out. Some become stressed when they cannot decide what to have for breakfast.

Does God want you to be stressed? No. God allows situations to come into your life to mature you and prepare you for your purpose. The "wait" is stressful for some people. Sometimes situations come at you one after the other. Take heart. God is actually working things out in you and for you.

Here is how you overcome stress:
