Trading the Old Man for the New

Colossians 3:8-10
New Living Translation

8 But now is the time to get rid of anger, rage, malicious behavior, slander, and dirty language. 9 Don’t lie to each other, for you have stripped off your old sinful nature and all its wicked deeds. 10 Put on your new nature, and be renewed as you learn to know your Creator and become like him.

Why is it so hard to be a Christian? It is an old story. The internal struggle of mankind has always gone on and always will. The old nature is constantly at war with the new. Since we are in flesh, we have a sinful nature.

We are living in a time where anything goes. Our children are playing no longer worrying about falling of the monkey bars, but worried about getting shot at the park. Men are marrying men, women are marrying women. People are calling wrong right and right wrong. Men have become lovers of themselves. The church even talks more about financial prosperity than spiritual prosperity. The church has become consumed with building membership and not God's kingdom. Pastors are not exposing sin or preaching deliverance like they should for fear of losing revenue.

It is time for us to stop fooling ourselves. It is time to strip ourselves of the old nature that says it is alright to lie, curse, and backbite. January is the beginning of the year, make up in your mind today that you will renew your mind and spirit. Let's be more like Christ. Let's cast out demons, do the will of the Father, feed the hungry, minister to the sick, clothe the naked...

We are called to be the hands and feet of our Lord. Trade in the old man for the new one today. While trying to stick to your New Year's resolution, resolve to show the love of Jesus everyday in a big or small way.

God Bless
